Every year on the 2nd of September The Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) host Indigenous Literacy Day. The day is celebrated in hopes of raising awareness for the gap in education between Indigenous and non-Indigenous students and increase opportunities for the children that need it most.
This Indigenous Literacy Day we celebrate the resilience of our future leaders and those who support them.
This year the foundation hosted their first virtual celebration for all to enjoy. The celebration included a YouTube premier of exciting ILF ambassadors such as Jessica Mauboy, Anita Heiss, Andy Griffiths, Alison Lester, Shelley Ware and ILF co-Patron June Oscar AO. It also included a feature of children and community members from Tiwi Islands, Jilkminggan in the Northern Territory and Bidyadanga in Western Australia who shared their stories and the value of language.
Each year the foundation also sets a fundraising goal to raise funds for literacy materials for Indigenous children Australia wide. They also supply alternative option for donations through their website.
